アリックス・ダブキンAlix Dobkin

1965年に結婚、70年に子どもを一人もうけ、72年に離婚。その後まもなく、ある女性の友人と恋に落ちたダブキンはレズビアンであるとカムアウトし、すぐさまレズビアンのための曲をつくり、歌いはじめる。数多くのアルバムをリリースし、アメリカ、カナダ、イギリス、スコットランド、アイルランド、オーストラリア、ニュージーランドをツアーでまわった。「女の音楽Womyn’s music」を通じてレズビアン・カルチャーやレズビアン・コミュニティを育てるために。

 

ダブキンはコミュニティでの知名度により、「レズビアンの首領（ドン）Head Lesbian」と呼ばれている。「これまで25年以上にわたって、国内外のたくさんの女性コミュニティを巡ってきました。私たちの共通の文化からさまざまな要素を集めて曲をつくることと、個性豊かなレズビアンのありかたや財産、課題、価値を讃えたり話し合ったりするワークショップを開くことは、光栄であり喜びでもあります」と彼女は語る。

 

ダブキンには熱烈なファンがおり、「女の音楽の伝説womyn’s music legend（Spin Magazine）」「力強い（The Village Voice）」「辛辣で……独創的で……想像力豊か（New Age Journal）」「妥協しない（New York Times Magazine）」「トラブルメーカー（FBI）」と呼ばれた。

 

1980年代になって、予期せぬ名声を得た。David LettermanやHoward Sternのようなコメディアンたちが、彼女が73年に初めてリリースした画期的なアルバム『Lavender Jane Loves Women』（当時はカムアウトした誇り高きレズビアンのレコードはまだ存在しなかった）を取り上げ、そのなかの"View From Gay Head"という歌のフレーズをオンエアしたことによる（以上、Wikipediaとインタビュー記事"Alix Dobkin: Lesbian Musician and Feminist Icon"を参照しリミックスした超意訳）。
